Field Poppies Seeds

Field Poppies Seeds

The iconic red field poppy (Papaver Rhoeas) is synonymous with waving wheatfields, but the seeds can be sown anywhere from meadows to garden borders in full sun, preferring a light, fertile soil. An annual, the poppy flowers stand aloft on long stalks which reach heights of up to 75cm – a beacon drawing bees and other insects to your garden or wildflower meadow. Sow field poppy seeds in early spring and wait for the appearance of the bright red flowers from June to August. At the end of the season the field poppies will self-seed for the following year.

About Field Poppies Seeds

Description

Few flowers are as instantly recognisable as the red field poppy. With its vivid scarlet petals and delicate, upright stems, this classic wildflower brings strong visual impact to meadows, borders and naturalistic planting schemes.

Field poppies (Papaver rhoeas) are easy to grow annuals that thrive in full sun and light, fertile soils. Once established, they produce tall stems reaching 60–75 cm, topped with striking blooms that flower freely from early summer through to late summer.

Beyond their appearance, field poppies are valued for their role in supporting wildlife. The open flowers provide an accessible nectar source for bees and beneficial insects, making them a popular choice for wildlife-friendly gardens and wildflower displays.

When conditions are right, poppies will often self-seed naturally, helping displays return year after year with minimal effort. Whether used in a meadow mix, a dedicated wildflower area, or scattered through garden borders, they deliver a simple, reliable burst of colour with very little maintenance.

Sow in early spring or autumn for a flowering period between June and August (the same year when spring sown).
